Trading Concept

Market Making

A strategy that provides liquidity by continuously quoting both buy and sell prices, profiting from the spread between them.

Market makers stand on both sides of the book. They offer to buy at the bid and sell at the ask simultaneously, earning the spread on each round trip. In exchange for providing this liquidity, they accept inventory risk — if the market moves against their position, the accumulated inventory loses value faster than the spread income covers.

Market making is viable on platforms with sufficient trading volume and predictable spread dynamics. On Polymarket, market makers provide liquidity in low-volume contracts. On Binance, market makers operate at scale across major pairs. On TCGPlayer, sellers who list at competitive prices are functionally market making in the card economy.

The botwir3 maker-first module supports market-making logic for platforms with order book APIs. The module quotes configurable bid and ask prices relative to the mid-price and manages inventory within the configured band. The gate validates each quote against position limits before submission.
